Two homeless children handed over to children’s home by NCPA
Whose father had sold their house and property and wasted the money on liquor
Two homeless children, whose father had sold their house and property and wasted the money on liquor were handed over to the care of a children’s home by the National Child Protection Authority.
The officials of the Child Protection Authority conducted investigations following an anonymous call to their emergency service. They had rushed to the scene to find two children, a 14 year old girl and a 12 year old boy, who had been left derelict after their mother went abroad for employment and their father wasted his money on liquor.
The businessman who purchased the house for the very low price of Rs.75,000 had demolished it leaving the two children without a place to stay. The two children who spent the night by the roadside had been beaten and driven away by their father who came after drinks. As a result they had been compelled to sleep under a lorry belonging to the businessman who purchased their house.
They told the officials that their mother had informed them that she would not return to Sri Lanka without a house to live in.
