WC APPOINTS KABIR HASHIM AS UNP CHAIRMAN

Jayawickrama Perera resigns to bring in ‘young blood’

The United National Party (UNP) working committee yesterday decidedtoappointKegalleDistrictMember of Parliament and Leadership council Member Kabir Hashim as theparty’snewchairman.

Commentingontheappointment, UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake told Daily Mirror that Mr. Hashim would replace Kurunegala District MP Gamini Jayawickrama Perera who had wanted to resign from the post in order that the party could give younger members more responsibility within the party’s hierarchy.

Meanwhile it was also revealed that UNP MP Rosy Senanayake had been appointed as the Chairwoman of the Lak Vanitha movement of the party. In addition three new posts had also been created within the party namely secretary political affairs, plantation society secretary and someone to head a movement for farmers.
