NAVY COMMODORE ARRESTED OVER COLLISION
A Commodore of the Sri Lanka Navy was arrested in connection with the collision of a Navy double-cab with a train, at the Puliyankulama railway crossing in Anuradhapura on Saturday
which resulted in the death of a Navy sailor and injuries to seven others. This followed the confession of a sailor involved in the accident taken into custody, that the double-cab was driven by his superior and not himself.

Navy driver Saumya Bandara who was in remand confessed in a statement yesterday morning that he did not drive the double-cab but it was his superior Navy Commodore Gajamange who drove it. Meanwhile, Commodore Gajamange got himself admitted to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital on Tuesday.

Speaking to Daily Mirror Navy spokesman Commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya said an internal inquiry was already underway over the incident. He said that the double-cab was returning to Colombo from the Punewa Naval Base in Anuradhapura.
