JAVELIN GOES ASTRAY AND STRIKES SCHOOLBOY’S FACE
During practice for the sports meet at Embilipitiya Maha Vidyalaya, Panamura last morning, a seventeen year old schoolboy was seriously injured when a javelin accidentally struck him in the face just below his left eye.
The javelin had entered his body at a point just below the left eye and penetrated it to a depth of about six inches.The injured boy had been rushed to the Embilipitiya hospital with the javelin still in place,
and the doctors had cut off most of the exposed portion of the javelin and transferred the boy to the Colombo National Hospital for surgery to remove the portion that had entered his body.
The injured boy identified as K M Gayan Madushanka is in the A/L class of the college and also a prefect. Hospital sources said the accident had occurred during practice for the sports meet; a javelin thrown by a schoolboy had gone astray and struck the victim who had been on the school grounds. A scan was to be carried out at the Colombo National Hospital prior to the removal of the embedded portion of the javelin.
