Maintenance work on Sigiriya

The Geological Survey and Mines Bureau will conduct maintenance work on the Sigiriya Rock Fortress in collaboration with the Central Cultural Fund, Director General Anil Peiris said.

“We are carrying out this maintenance project in three stages. In the first stage, we will stabilise the loose rocks and replace those that are a threat to visitors,” he said and added that this would begin from the Lion’s Paw Terrace.

Mr. Peiris said the project was undertaken for the safety of those who visit the Rock Fortress and assured that the work would not undermine the historical value of the site nor would it in any way hinder the local and foreign visitors.
