INDIA CANCELS ENERGY DIALOGUE WITHUSOVERKHOBRAGADE
Washington, January 09, 2014 (Hindustani Times) - India has indefinitely postponed the next energy dialogue with the US to force it to back down on Devyani Khobragade, as the diplomat’s indictment deadline looms. Khobragade’s G-1 visa, which could confer on her full diplomatic immunity on her transfer to India’s permanent mission to the US, hasn’t through either.
And that has been a cause of concern.
US energy secretary Ernest Moniz was to visit New Delhi next week for the next round of energy dialogue. But the meet was cancelled at India’s urging, said sources.
There has been no word on it official yet.
But a US ad-
come ministration source said, “I can confirm that Secretary Moniz is no longer traveling to India next week.” The source refused to be identified to be able to speak freely.
“We have been in conversation with Indian counterparts about the dates, and we have agreed to hold the Dialogue in the near future at a mutually convenient date,” the source
