Busby Babes and Rest of EPL win ‘Cup’ and ‘Shield’

Busby Babes (Manchester United) led by Madushan De Silva who scored the solitary goal in the second session against Anfielfd Warriors (Liverpool) gave his team the ‘Cup’ in the English Premier League Final of Sri Lanka played at the CR and FC ground.

In the second final, Rest of EPL defeated Stamford Brigade (Chelsea) to lift the ‘Shield.’

The tournament was organised by Vajira Abeyr- atne who is on vacation from Melbourne, Australia where he is a student at La Trobe University.

The English Premier League of Sri Lanka is a social networking group that has a strength of 3000 members. The main objective of the group is to encourage the youth to take to the game and to give them the chance to play the game profession­ally.

It was a nine-a-side tournament in which 16 teams participat­ed.

The main sponsor was Global Brand, while the other sponsors were Orange, a leading IT Company, Hilton Colombo, Regional Developmen­t Bank and Red Carpet Events.

The Golden Boot was awarded to Madushan De Silva, while Shahen Sheriff was the best goal keeper and the most valuable player was M.L. Nasarulla.
