WPC dissolution between Jan.12 and 15?
Western Province Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga yesterday said an announcement on the dissolution of the Western Provincial Council would be made on January 11 and the dissolution would be done the following week.
Mr. Ranatunga told journalists that the council would likely be dissolved on any day between January 12 and January 15.
He said the ruling UPFA had decided not to name chief ministerial candidates at this election. Mr. Ranatunga said everyone in the party should respect this party decision.
He claimed three UNP members of the Western provincial council representing the three districts Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara had held talks with the UPFA leadership in the recent past but there were no vacancies in the party to accommodate them. “We have other important things to do rather than wooing members of opposition,” he said.
