US Embassy says won’t change Twitter post

External Affairs Ministry on Thursday said it would seek a clarificat­ion from the US Embassy regarding the matter.

The US Embassy in Colombo yesterday said it would not change the controvers­ial photo caption posted by the US Embassy in its official Twitter account.

The US Embassy had posted a caption to a photo of US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Michele Sison and US Ambassador-at-Large for War Crimes Issues in the Office of Global Criminal Justice Stephen Rapp taken at St. Anthony’s Ground in Puthukudiy­iruppu saying that “St Anthony’s Ground - site of January 2009 killing of hundreds of families by army shelling” The Sri Lankan External Affairs Ministry on Thursday said it would seek a clarificat­ion from the US Embassy regarding the matter.

When asked whether the Twitter message would be changed, the embassy spokespers­on said it would not. A discussion was to be held with External Affairs Ministry representa­tives touching upon the issue, she said.
