New Peliyagoda market complex gets underway

-

The Urban Development Authority (UDA) said yesterday that preliminary work towards a new market complex next to the Peliyagoda fish market had begun. On completion, the new complex would house vendors from the Manning Market.

However, UDA Deputy Director Janaka Ranaweera said he could not predict when the project would be completed. “Once the market in Peliyagoda is built we will shift the vendors from the Manning Market there. I cannot exactly state when the work would be finished but as soon as it does, it would be handed over to the vendors,” he said.

Ranaweera stated that the new shopping complex was built on a tenacre land which was being filled at the moment.

“The design section will do the architecture of the new complex; we have already begun work on it,” he said.

The Deputy Director said the new shopping complex would include recreational areas, restaurants and a spacious car park.
