Man impersonating an accused remanded
The real accused, who had been released on bail, was evading court and the person who had stood surety for the bail bond had sent another man to appear in court on his behalf
A man who appeared in court and impersonated an accused under arrest warrant for evading court was sentenced to two years rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs.3000 by Panadura Chief Magistrate, Ruchira Weliwatta.
The real accused, who had been released on bail, was evading court and the person who had stood surety for the bail bond had sent another man to appear in court on his behalf.
However the police, who caught on to the ruse, informed the magistrate that the man appearing in court was an imposter and not the real accused.
The suspect pleaded guilty to the charge of impersonation. The person who stood surety for the bail bond of the main accused was remanded till January 17, 2014 and an arrest warrant was issued on the accused.
