Lecture on Bio-diversity
A public lecture on “Key Bio-diversity Areas of Sri Lanka” sponsored by the Wildlife and Nature Protection Society of Sri Lanka, will be delivered by Prof. Devaka Weerakoon on Thursday, 16th January 2014 at 6.15 p.m. at the Auditorium of the Department of Meteorology, 383, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 07 (Opposite BMICH). All are welcome and entrance is free.
Professor Devaka Weerakoon graduated from University of Colombo in 1985 with a major in Zoology. He received a Fulbright Scholarship in 1988 to study in USA where he has completed his MSc. and PhD. at Illinois State University. In 1995 he returned to the Colombo University and worked as a conservation biologist. He was also a technical advisor for the ‘Red Listing’ Programme of Sri Lanka from 1996 to date. Presently he serves as the technical advisor for the Environment Ministry on conservation of threatened species in Sri Lanka.
He has worked as a consultant to the Department of Wildlife Conservation where he has provided technical support for preparation and implementation of protected area management plans, managing alien invasive species in protected areas, habitat mapping, protected area gap analysis, and conducting bird surveys. He has also worked as a consultant to several government departments of Sri Lanka.
