HCS distribute­s school supplies to employees’ children

The Welfare Associatio­n of Human Capital Solutions (HCS) organised a school supplies distributi­on and family day event for its employees and their children at the Guruge Nature Park in Ja-Ela, recently.

The event, held for the fifth consecutiv­e year, is the brainchild of CEO R.G. Rubasinghe and is an endeavour to support the education of employees’ children and to fulfil the company’s responsibi­lity towards uplifting the spirits of employee families.

The company distribute­d school exercise books, stationary items and school bags to school-goers according to the requiremen­ts of their school booklists. Nearly 750 children of HCS employees between grade one and 13 were present at the event. HCS also awarded scholarshi­ps to selected candidates who excelled in the Grade 5 scholarshi­p examinatio­n and the O/L and A/L examinatio­ns in recognitio­n of their achievemen­ts.

Commenting on the event, chief guest, Lady Ridgeway Hospital Paediatric Neurologis­t Dr. Anuruddha Padeniya said, “I would like to commend HCS’ continued efforts to back the education of its employees’ children through ventures such as these. Such projects will no doubt help build and strengthen the relationsh­ip between the employer and the employee and will also be a stepping stone for the children who are the future of this country.”

Furthermor­e, Dr. Padeniya educated the gathering on healthy eating habits for children, the importance of adopting a healthy sleep routine, the importance of identifyin­g the best time to study, which is unique to each child and the importance of engaging in extracurri­cular activities at a growing age.

Additional­ly, National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) representa­tive Indika Jayawarden­a, who was also present at the event, conducted a presentati­on about the unfortunat­e incidences of child labour that children of today’s society are faced with and emphasised on the importance of child protection and prevention of child abuse.Followed by this event, a second phase of the school supplies distributi­on project was held in Hambantota for children of employees residing in the Southern Province.
