Biting man gets bail

A man, who was remanded for allegedly biting a police constable’s left arm and stomach and obstructin­g him from performing his duties at a musical show at the Galle Face Green on New Year’s Eve, has been released on bail.

The suspect was ordered to be released on a surety bail of Rs.100,000 when he was produced before Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage.

The Fort police which conducted investigat­ions into the incident told Court that the injured policeman was a PC attached to the Wolfendhal Police Station.

The PC was checking the suspect when he turned around and bit the policeman’s left arm and stomach. The man was caught by another PC while attempting to flee the scene.

They told Court that the PC, who was on duty at the musical show, had observed a man behaving in a suspicious manner and attempting to steal parts from trishaws parked there.
