Army drivers among three arrested for robbery

Two army drivers attached to a military camp in Mullaitivu and another individual were taken into custody for the alleged robbery of Rs.20,000 and three cellular phones belonging to guests at a restaurant in the Mabima area.

Investigations revealed that the other individual who came with the two soldiers was a heroin seller.

They had entered the restaurant by force on their way back after transporting a senior official to his house and robbed the guests of their cash and cellular phones after threatening the manager.

Police said they were conducting further investigations to seize the military vehicle involved in the incident while the suspects are to be produced at an identification parade at the Mahara magistrate court on January 17.
