GOVERNMENT TO TAKE QUALITY EDUCATION TO RURAL AREAS : G.L

Addressing meetings held at the Kirama Dhammanand­a Maha Vidyalaya and Walgammull­a Maha Vidyalaya in Mulkirigal­a, and during a site visit to the Shangri-La Hotel project in Hambantota, Minister of External Affairs Prof. G.L. Peiris, accompanie­d by MP Namal Rajapaksa addressed issues relating to the vast strides made by rural schools and the ongoing constructi­on of the Shangri-La Hotel.

The Minister stated that the progressiv­e policies of the government under President Mahinda Rajapaksa had contribute­d immensely to the high standards of education in rural schools, hitherto the preserve of the so-called privileged Colombo based schools.

Prof. Peiris noted that obtaining a quality education for their children remains one of the predominan­t concerns

By continuing to support the developmen­t of primary and secondary schools in the country, that have been identified under a special programme launched by the Ministry of Education on the instructio­ns of the President, Sri Lanka will soon possess a greatly strengthen­ed and much more equitable secondary education system in the future.
