Some govt. institutions violating language policy: Vasu
National Languages and Social Integration Minister Vasudeva Nanayakkara said that he had taken serious note of the violation of the language policy by some government institutions by issuing circulars in one language only.
A statement from the Ministry said, In consequence to the revelations at the Budgetary Committee meeting on October 22, 2013, that some of the letters sent by government organisations had been in Sinhalese only and also about the absence of the requirement of a translation in Tamil amounting to a total disregard shown towards the Language Policy of the government, a fact that the Minister has drawn the attention of the policy enforcers to. It was observed that even the invitation cards and other documents prepared for the meeting of the Advisory Committee Meeting had been in English only. tention of the Ministerial Secretaries to the Government Circulars, namely the Circular No: 04 / 2012 of August 30, 2012 and Circular No: 3 / 2010 – of September 1, 2010. By that letter the Minister notified the concerned officials seeking their attention to the allegation that it is being reported repeatedly that the documents meant to be sent in three languages were sent only in Sinhalese.
The National Languages Commission, affiliated to the Ministry of National Languages and Social Integration, had the right to take legal action against those who do not implement the national languages policy accurately.
