Virtusa hosts first SharePoint Forum meeting for 2014
Virtusa SL-ATC hosted the first meeting of the Sri Lanka SharePoint Forum for 2014 at the Virtusa Auditorium, recently. The audience consisted of over 50 SharePoint specialists and IT professionals from around the country.
Prabath Fonseka, Microsoft Most Valuable Professional ( MVP) and Leader of the user g ro u p, opened the forum while SharePoint Architects at Virtusa, Shehan Peruma and Amal Abeygunawardana made insightful presentations on new features of SharePoint 2013.
Amal spoke on ‘Improvements to BCS in SharePoint 2013’ elaborating on the architecture, evolution and improvement in BCS, including code walkthroughs and demo, while Shehan, in his presentation ‘Search Driven Publishing in SharePoint 2013’, demonstrated how quality search-driven solutions can be built into SharePoint portals.
The discussion took an interesting turn as two volunteers from the audience shared their experiences on the use of SharePoint in their projects for which they were awarded with cool tech gear. In addition to hosting the event, Virtusa also sponsored gift packs which were handed out to participants who were able to answer questions asked by the presenters.
The Sri Lanka SharePoint Forum is a user group of SharePoint professionals from around the country which meet every month to discuss various features of the technology and share success stories, knowledge and expertise. Their aim is to enrich and build the SharePoint community in Sri Lanka and contribute to the development of the wider IT industry of the country.
SharePoint is a simple and user-friendly web application platform developed by Microsoft, which enables organisations to manage and provision multiple intranet, Internet and extranet portals. It also provides rich document management, business intelligence, social networking and information integration capabilities. Over the years, interest in SharePoint has grown at a phenomenal rate among techies and business users alike.
