India sure to vote for UNHRC resolution: Suresh

He told Daily Mirror that he visited Tamil Nadu and addressed a forum or- ganised by human rights organisati­ons representi­ng different Indian states such as those of West Bengal, Rajasthan and Kannada.

Mr. Premachand­ran said he had discussion­s with representa­tives of several Tamil Nadu political parties and the Bharatiya Janatha Party (BJP) but declined to give any more details.

“From what I gauged during my interactio­ns with them, I am fully confident that India will vote for the resolution as they did on the previous two occasions,” he said. Commenting on the draft resolution, he said he was not happy with its contents. “We are not happy with the contents of the draft resolution. It does not mean we are opposed to it. We are lobbying for a stronger wording of the resolution. Actually, the second draft is an improvemen­t on the first one,” he said.
