Residents living in Homagama, Koswatta yesterday complained that the authorities had not repaired the road giving access to this area even though busses had stopped plying t he route owing to its poor state of repair.

Residents claimed the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus, their only mode of transport on that road, had broken due to the dilapidated condition of the road.

“Now, the only bus plying down t he road runs only halfway and this too may stop soon,” they said.

The SLTB bus which plied from Homagama via Uduwana, Dolahena and Govi Janapadaya up to the Koswatta-Raigama junction was withdrawn owing to the damaged road. Residents of the area said their request to repair the road fell on deaf ears.

Residents charged that officials had spent a large

sum to repair a nearby road that hardly served people in no more than 25 houses. “They did not allocate funds or attempt to make this road which was used by a larger number of people,” they said.

They also charged that local politicians had not attempted to repair the road despite the forthcoming PC elections although they had tarred other by roads.

The acting chairman of the Homagama Pradeshiya Sabha, Indika Koralage said he could not comment on the issue.
