Singer “A” overcome defending champs MAS Unichela

Singer SL “A” completed their group stage matches on a high note, beating the defending champions, MAS Unichela “B” by 3-runs in the ongoing “Emerald Tea”Trophy, MCA “B” division 50-Over League Tournament, continued on Wednesday.

Singer “A” in their 06 league matches have won three, their other two wins against Commercial Bank “A” and DIMO, losing to NTB “A”, Textured Jersey, and LB Finance.

Tanil Gayan with a well compiled half century (53 runs in 44 balls with 03 sixes and 05 fours) held the Singer batting, as they put up a respectabl­e 221 for 9 in 50-overs.

Unichela had to get 09 runs to win in the last over (213 for 9) sent down by Mahesh Sandaruwan, who kept his nerve to give Singer a heart stopping victory.

Despite a valiant 66 runs in 84 balls, inclusive of 04 sixes & 05 fours by No. 7 batsman, Manjula Silva, DIMO rode away with a comfortabl­e 07 wickets win over Commercial Bank “A”.

Commercial Bank “A” have now lost 04 matches on the trot hence the only team without a win in the tournament up to date. Their 02 remaining matches are against MAS Unichela “B” & LB Finance.
