Save Water, Save Energy with Citigardens

-

Water is the very source of all living things on this blue planet. Water – Energy Nexus chosen as the theme for this year’s World Water Day - 2014, highlights the enormity of the issues we are faced with. However only less than 0.3 % of all fresh water is available and considered safe for human consumption. As the world population increases so does the rate of pollution, making it increasingly a struggle to address inequity issues in the distribution “safe” uncontaminated water to the entire population. We need water to make our crops grow and to produce our energy, and in turn we need energy to transport our water and food to our doorstep.

At Citigardens we are very much aware of how precious water is to humans and the environment, and it is on this very concept that Citigardens is built on. The two main areas of focus are the Agriculture sector and Environmental Sustainability. An estimated 70% of fresh water used by humans is for agriculture purposes. However in most cases the source of the water is very much away from where it is needed. This results in high logistical, operational and labour costs to famers and in turn affects consumers and the economy at large. It is at this point that Citigardens plays a major role, which is to carry this precious resource efficiently right up to the plants via micro-irrigation systems, and thus ensuring minimum wastage of this natural resource and lowering overall cost for the grower. “Micro irrigation” is a resourceful method of managing with a basic supply of water as the water flow is concentrated to the root area of the plant where it really is needed. The flow itself is moderated and the application is precise. Microirrigation in the form of Drippers, Sprinklers, and Sprayers is fast catch- ing on in Sri Lanka

Citigardens has been working to promote, implement and share knowledge on “Micro-Irrigation” for the past 14 years, taking the technology around the island to better farming and landscaping practices. Citigardens has worked immensely over the years to increase the popularity of the latest Agri-technology amongst not only the “farming” sectors but also in the “home-garden” sector in collaboration with government, non-governmental and private sector organisations through their CSR Budgets for this purpose. We promote some of the best brands in the industry and are the sole agents for the “Super Product” brand. Citigardens has a wide distribution network for the convenience of its customers and has spread its roots all across the island with branches in Dehiwala, Pettah, Keppatipola and Dambulla and dealers island-wide. Training workshops are conducted monthly on this new technology and has benefitted over 1,400 participants so far island wide.

Apart from micro-irrigation, Citigardens is also concerned with preserving the environment and improving the quality of the flora and fauna of our country. At Citigardens, we are constantly exploring new products that are environmentally friendly and which increase productivity. We are pleased to introduce our new such product range “BiOWiSH”. BiOWiSH uses a novel eco-friendly technology that can be used for waste water treatment, aquaculture, crop farming, animal agriculture and to remove odour. It functions as a biocatalyst to speed the process and restore balance to biological systems. BiOWiSH is a 100% natural and organic product and studies have proved its success over the recent years. The product is composed of natural ingredients that are non-toxic and safe for humans and animals. It is activated once it makes contact with water, and is produced through a natural fermentation process that has been developed and refined over the past 15 years.

A staggering $103 billion per year is required to finance water, sanitation and waste water treatment in the developing countries only. The availability of safe fresh water is one of the main concerns of today and a huge amount of waste water can be “recovered” by proper management and purification methods. Citigardens is determined to be part of this long term solution by introducing BiOWiSH – Aqua & Septic range for the purification of large and small polluted water bodies and septic systems. BiOWiSH products effectively digest organic waste matter and helps release purified water before it is release in to our water channels and environment. It also helps maintain a healthy COD and BOD level for aqua plants and animals. As the product is non-toxic the purified water could be recycled and used for further daily utilisation.

Citigardens is pleased to have been registered as the official distributor of BiOWiSH in Sri Lanka and looks forward to introduce this new product in the Sri Lankan market at this timely hour. For further details please
