In response to an anusasana by Getambe Rajopawanaramaya Chief Incumbent Ven. Keppetiyagoda Siri Wimala Thera during a courtesy call on the prelate on Saturday, the President said he was also not satisfied with the actions of certain politicians. “I am disgusted with them,” he said. The President said that degrees and postgraduate degrees were considered to be qualifications to be elected as people’s representatives in some countries and pointed out Pakistan as one of them.

Mr. Rajapaksa added that he was bound to protect the Buddha Sasana and to rule the country according to the advice of the Maha Sangha. The Mathata Thitha programme that aimed at the eradication of drug menace in the country has been successful to some extent in some areas, he said.

However, he said the drug menace was rearing its ugly head once again and he expected the advice and support of the Buddhist monks to combat this menace, as it was difficult for the government alone to combat the menace.

Central Province Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa and Central Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake also participated in this event.
