Thirty children ordained

A religious ceremony to ordain 30 children in the Buddhist Order to mark the 150th anniversary of instituting the Sri Lanka Ramanna Maha Nikaya was held on Saturday, April 19 at Naranwala Sri Sumanakeerthi Maha Pirivena in Weliweriya under the guidance of the Anunayaka Thera of the Sri Lanka Ramanna Nikaya,the Ven. Madathiyawala Medhalankara

On the occasion the new “Seema Malakaya” building of the temple was ceremonially opened under the patronage of the Sanghanayaka of Colombo and Chilaw, and Kelaniya University Chancellor, the Ven. Welamitiyawe Kusaladamma Thera and the Mahanayaka of Amarapura Chulagandi Nikaya, the Ven. Assaji Thera.

The children had been selec- ted to represent various parts of the country.

Alms were also offered to three hundred and fifty monks.

Delivering a special anusasana, the Ven Kusaladamma Thera said that since bikkhus serve greatly to preserve the dhamma, more should be ordained instead of erecting statues and placing books in libraries.
