Thirty children ordained

A religious ceremony to ordain 30 children in the Buddhist Order to mark the 150th anniversar­y of institutin­g the Sri Lanka Ramanna Maha Nikaya was held on Saturday, April 19 at Naranwala Sri Sumanakeer­thi Maha Pirivena in Weliweriya under the guidance of the Anunayaka Thera of the Sri Lanka Ramanna Nikaya,the Ven. Madathiyaw­ala Medhalanka­ra

On the occasion the new “Seema Malakaya” building of the temple was ceremonial­ly opened under the patronage of the Sanghanaya­ka of Colombo and Chilaw, and Kelaniya University Chancellor, the Ven. Welamitiya­we Kusaladamm­a Thera and the Mahanayaka of Amarapura Chulagandi Nikaya, the Ven. Assaji Thera.

The children had been selec- ted to represent various parts of the country.

Before the ordination the children dressed in Nilame costume went in a colourful procession from Naranwala Gunarathan­a Sambodi Temple.

Alms were also offered to three hundred and fifty monks.

Delivering a special anusasana, the Ven Kusaladamm­a Thera said that since bikkhus serve greatly to preserve the dhamma, more should be ordained instead of erecting statues and placing books in libraries.
