Robbers arrested at Gangodawil­a

A gang of three men who had been carrying out burglaries in pharmacies in the Boralesgam­uwa, the Kohuwela and Wellawatta areas by breaking open the doors was arrested by Kohuwela Police during a raid at the Gamsabha Junction in Gangodawil­a, Nugegoda on Saturday night (19).

During the raid Police seized a large consignmen­t of drugs and medical equipment valued at more than Rs.5 mn and the tools the suspects used to break open the doors.

The suspects were between 59 and 68 years of age and were residents of the Kirulapona and Moratuwa areas, the Police said.

Police said one of the suspects was an office assistant at a government establishm­ent in Moratuwa and another was an owner of a pharmacy.

The suspects are believed to have sold the stolen goods to pharmacies in Pettah at low prices.

The Police also seized two lorries and a trishaw used by the suspects to transport the stolen goods.

Crime Investigat­ions Branch OIC SI V.Sumathipal­a, Constables Dayasiri 33789, Rangana 73019, Chaturanga 72746, Rukman 84716, Indika 73010, Geethapriy­a 78828, Janaka 87699, Erawwala 89483, Amarasena 66369, Ranjan 13448 and WPCs Madurika 8826 and Rangika 9607 carried out the raid.
