Prelate: Attack on MPs an insult to Government

The harassment of a group of Opposition MPs who went to inspect the Mattala Airport and the Hambantota Harbour was a disgrace to the Government and to the President, the Chief incumbent of t he Gatambe Rajopawanarama Temple and the Senior Member of the Sri Lanka Ramana Nikaya Ven. Keppetiyagoda Siriwimala Thera said in a statement.

“To allow such instances to continue would create disharmony to ruling the country,” he said.

“Some behaved in a manner which was contrary to the law of this country.

The Police said to have acted complacently at the time of the incident.

The President should take stern action against these attackers as such incidents

Thera stresses impartial investigation should be held to find under whose influence the attack on the Opposition MPs took place

would bring disrepute to the President,” the Thera stated.

“Had the Opposition group been treated with respect on their arrival at the Hambanthota harbour there would have been nothing left to comment against the Government on their return to Colombo.

“Impartial investigation should be held to find under whose influence the attack on the Opposition MPs took place and the authorities should ensure such incidents should not occur in the future,” the Thera said in his statement.
