Prelate: Attack on MPs an insult to Government

The harassment of a group of Opposition MPs who went to inspect the Mattala Airport and the Hambantota Harbour was a disgrace to the Government and to the President, the Chief incumbent of t he Gatambe Rajopawana­rama Temple and the Senior Member of the Sri Lanka Ramana Nikaya Ven. Keppetiyag­oda Siriwimala Thera said in a statement.

“To allow such instances to continue would create disharmony to ruling the country,” he said.

“Some behaved in a manner which was contrary to the law of this country.

The Police said to have acted complacent­ly at the time of the incident.

“Had the Opposition group been treated with respect on their arrival at the Hambanthot­a harbour there would have been nothing left to comment against the Government on their return to Colombo.

“Impartial investigat­ion should be held to find under whose influence the attack on the Opposition MPs took place and the authoritie­s should ensure such incidents should not occur in the future,” the Thera said in his statement.
