Chanaka and Sajani take men and women’s shuttle titles

Chanaka De Silva of LOLC and Sajani De Costa of Ceylinco emerged the men’s and women’s singles champions at the 31st Mercantile Novices Badminton Championsh­ips held at S. Thomas’ Indoor Sports Complex recently.

After losing the first set 17/21 to Navinda Amarasingh­e of Virtusa, Chanaka De Silva came back to clinch the other two sets 21/18, 21/18.

In the women’s singles, Sajani De Costa coasted to a two set (21/12, 21/7) win over Roshani Dissanayak­e of Seylan Bank.

Master’s Singles: M.R.M. Thaseem (A&A) beat Rienzie Fernando (JKH) 21/18, 21/14. Madushanka’s hat trick gives Commercial Credit‘B’title

A hat-trick by centre forward W.A.A. Madushanka gave Commercial Credit a 3-0 win over Sampath Bank in the final of the MFA ‘B’ division knock-out soccer tournament at the Baddegana Football ground recently. At half time neither side had penetrated the other’s defence.

After the turn around, Madushanka scored his goals in the 32nd, 40th and 55th minutes.

The game was refereed by K. Udayakanth­a, while the co-ordinator was K.A.G. Gunasena and Anton Atapattu was the match commission­er.

Kalutara win on tie breaker

Kalutara defeated Dehiwlela/Mount Lavinia by 8 goals to 5 in a Senior League All Island Inter League 2014 football fixture conducted by the FFSL at various venues island wide.

When no time was blown, the scores were level at three all.
