LANDROVER SPONSORS TRINITY RUGBY 2014
Land Rover which is synonymous with the game of Rugby has joined Trinity College Kandy as the principal sponsor for their Rugby season of 2014. The sponsorship was disclosed during a press conference attended by the Principal of Trinity College BrigadierUdaya Aryaratne, Sheran Fernando - Managing Director SML Frontier Automotive (Pvt) Ltd, Jayantissa Kehelpannala – President of the Trinity Rugby Scrummage and Rohan Abeykoon – Vice President of the Trinity Rugby Scrummage
Trinity College which was founded in 1872 has an unparalleled rugby tradition in Sri Lanka where old boy L. E. Blaze is credited with having introduced the game to the island's schools in 1906, the year in which Trinity played Kingswood College in the very first School Boy Rugby encounter in the Country.
Brigadier Aryaratne speaking at the press conference said “Trinity has become a multi faceted educational institution, equal to that of any leading private school in the British Commonwealth. With its rich heritage, Trinity strives for an all round education and builds on its motto of “Respice Finem”, so Trinity looks if not to the end, but for years ahead in serving the youth of Sri Lanka. He further stated that the Trinity Rugby Fraternity is privileged to have a global brand such as Land Rover supporting Trinity Rugby.
Sheran Fernando speaking at the Press Conference said that Land Rover was the principal sponsor of the Rugby World Cup 2015 in England and was associated with the game at all levels. He further stated that through the sponsorship of Trinity, Land Rover is happy to be part of the Bradby Shield Encounter between Trinity and Royal, which is the most watched rugby match in the Country drawing crowds of over 20,000 and watch- ed live by many more around the world.
Jayantissa Kehelpannala said that the old Trinitian's Rugby Scrummage (OTRS) managed Rugby across all age groups at Trinity and thanked Land Rover for the sponsorship and trust placed on the “Trinity Rugby” brand. He further stated that whilst Trinity has always competed at the top it has maintained a near 80% win record since 2011 and has the best schools Rugby program across all age groups in the country. “It is nothing but ideal for Trinity Rugby to be associated with Land Rover, a global Brand originating from the home of Rugby, England”.
The Bradby Shield encounter takes place on the 10th of May at the Royal Sports Complex with the return leg on the 24th of May at the Pallekale Rugby stadium.
