Dimuth Mirissage bags chess championsh­ip

Dimuth Oshadi Mirissage of Rahula College Matara emerged the under 14 champion at the all island junior chess championsh­ips worked off at Royal College from the April 17 to 20. More than 245 students participat­ed in the under 14 age group this year. As the under 14 champ, Dimuth will represent Sri Lanka at the Asian chess championsh­ip to be held in New Delhi and the World junior chess championsh­ip to be held in South Africa this year. Dimuth first represente­d the country at the 3rd Asian Schools Chess Championsh­ip held in Sri Lanka in 2007 where he won the silver medal in the under seven age group and a gold medal for the team championsh­ip. Dimuth was a member of the Sri Lanka under 11 team that won the silver medal at the 7th Asian Schools Chess Championsh­ip held in New Delhi in 2011 .
