Ten sensible sensors on GALAXY S5

-

Digital technology leader, Samsung Electronics’ the GALAXY S5 now has a total of 10 useful sensors. A fingerprint sensor and a heart rate sensor have been added, while temperature and humidity level sensors have been removed from its predecessor, the GALAXY S4. When the GALAXY range was released in 2010, the first GALAXY smartphone, GALAXY S only had a total of five sensors. Today, Samsung has used innovative technology to equip the GALAXY S5 with ten quality sensors that enhance the overall user experience.

Heart rate sensor

The GALAXY S5 is the first smartphone with a built-in heart rate sensor, opening the door for users to monitor their health more effectively.

Users can measure heart rate with the GALAXY S5’s Health app by placing a finger on the sensor located under the rear camera.

The heart rate sensor consists of a pulse sensor and red LED. When the red LED is shone over the user’s fingertip, the heart rate sensor calculates how quickly red blood cells flow into the user’s blood vessels, and measures the user’s pulse and number of heart beats per minute.

Measured heart rates are shown on the GALAXY S5 display and can be stored on the device. Users can compare heart rates at any time, and can use the app to monitor their heart rate before and after exercise. They can also use the app to keep track of health and exercise routines.

Fingerprint sensor

The GALAXY S5’s fingerprint sensor has raised the bar for smartphone usability and security.

The fingerprint sensor is not only used for unlocking t he GALAXY S5’s main screen, it can also be used for mobile payments and for setting personal locks on files and personal documents.

Samsung has partnered with PayPal to offer services in 26 countries that allow users to substitute fingerprint identification for passwords, making it more seamless to conduct mobile payments. Wi t h Samsung’s fingerprint sensor, users can use their biometric data for identification rather than using personal details such as their date of birth, greatly enhancing security for PayPal’s mobile payments.

The GALAXY S5 features a fingerprint sensor that can store up to three fingerprints and can be used by swiping a finger across the home button.

The features of a user’s fingerprint are extracted, and are encrypted and stored in the form of a template only in a secure space with a unique key value assigned to each device.

The following are brief descriptions of other sensors that are featured on the GALAXY S5: Atmospheric pressure: Calculates accurately how many calories are burned while climbing a mountain by measuring air pressure. Hall sensor: senses the state of a flip cover so that when the cover is opened, the screen is turned on. Conversely, when the cover is closed, the screen is automatically turned off. RGB sensor: Decreases eye strain by automatically brightening or darkening the screen. Gesture Sensor: Users can interact with their phones without touching it by using hand gestures. Proximity sensor: Turns of the screen during a call. Gyro sensor: Users can read text easily by tilting the screen up and down. Accelerometer: Performs the similar functions to a pedometer and provides other features related to fitness. Geomagnetic sensor: Makes use of maps to accurately measure cardinal points.
