Akzo Nobel Paint shines at Nipuna Tharu Awards 2013

Akzo Nobel Paints Lanka (Pvt.) carried away the three top awards at Nipuna Tharu Awards 2013, recently. Madushanka Premarathn­a, Nalaka Prabath and Chathurang­a Kulathunga from Akzo Nobel Paints Lanka (Pvt.) Ltd won the Gold, Silver and Bronze medals, respective­ly.

Nipuna Tharu Awards 2013 attracted more than 50 contestant­s from the Automobile Engineerin­g Training Institute.

Nipuna Tharu is an annual awards programme conducted by Automobile Engineerin­g Training Institute and National Apprentice­ship and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA) under the Youth Affairs and Skills Developmen­t Ministry for auto painters under 35 years of age.

More than 60 students qualify in auto painting from the institute which was establishe­d in November 1989 by a grant aid from the Government of Japan at a cost of Rs.500 million. The institute plays a major role in the skills upgrading of the employees engaged in the automobile industry by introducin­g modern technology through skills upgrading programmes.

AETI principal, Channa Subasinghe said that the institute maintains a cordial industrial relationsh­ip with Akzo Nobel Paints Lanka (Pvt.) Ltd.

“Akzo Nobel Paints (Pvt.) Ltd provides us with training material, sharing industrial and technologi­cal knowhow and new trends, etc. They have already donated a colour mixing machine to our auto painting division, hence, we can produce skilled students each year who can keep up with the new industrial environmen­tal and technologi­cal changes,” he added.

Akzo Noble Paints Lanka (Pvt.) Ltd has been offering employment for many of AETI graduates over the years.
