Three UPFA PC members to join UNP: Harin

- BY YOHAN PERERA

Three ruling party members of the Uva Provincial Council are expected to crossover to the opposition, United National Party (UNP) parliamentarian Harin Fernando said yesterday.

He told Daily Mirror that two of the members are from the Moneragala District while the other is from the Badulla Distirct.

Mr. Fernando, who addressed the party’s Janayaya campaign in Badulla during the weekend, said the ruling party member from the Badulla District would make a statement at the next sessions of the UVA PC to be held at the end of the month.

He said it was unfortunate that some groups within the party were attempting to create various differences in the party. “We earnestly appeal to those who are trying to create internal rifts not to do so as we are on the way to success at the elections to the Uva PC,” Mr. Fernando said. He said it was sad to see certain groups trying to derail the party when people like him were preparing to resign from Parliament to contest the election on behalf of the party.

UNP Acting Leader Karu Jayasuiya who participated in the Janajaya campaign said the elections to the Uva PC would be decisive because it would be the forerunner to a general or a presidential election expected to be held sometime this year or early

next year.
