Stock of flawed Buddhist flags seized by CAA

- BY YOHAN PERERA AND LAHIRU POTHMULLA

As many as 60,000 Buddhist flags with mixed-up colours were seized by the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) from several shops in Pettah yesterday.

They were seized from shops located at the People's Park Complex last afternoon.

According to CAA Colombo District Chief Pradeep Kalutararachchi, the consignment comprised flags manufactured out of cloth and paper. He said the order of the colours of the flags were wrong. Some flags had the orange strip where the yellow strip should have been in accordance with the design of the Buddhist flag.

The shop owners had informed the CAA officers that the flags were sold to them by a middleman who had in turn bought the consignment from a manufacturer. The CAA officials said this was the first time in history where they had come across Buddhist flags with mixed-up colours.
