Police attacked when investigat­ing hotel clash

Panadura Police personnel, who visited Pinwatta to investigat­e a complaint over a clash between two groups at a tourist hotel, were attacked resulting in one of the police constables being injured.

Reports said when the police officers entered the hotel, a man brandishin­g a broken beer bottle had attempted to attack the Inspector who was in charge of the police personnel.

One of the constables, PC 51551 Nandasiri, intervened and managed to bring the man under control but in the process suffered injuries on his neck and head.

The suspect was arrested and produced before the Panadura Magistrate last morning.

Investigat­ions revealed that the suspect who is the hotel owner’s son was reported to have clashed with some of the hotel employees and the police were called in to sort matters out.
