Illicit brewery raided in Galewela

175 litres of illegally brewed spirit and 100 litres of Goda were seized and a suspect had been taken into custody during a raid on a house at Danduwagolla in Galewela.

The suspect had allegedly used an agrochemical sprayer to distill the illicit liquor. Investigations revealed that the illicit liquor was brewed for distribution during the Vesak festival whereas the liquor shops are closed.

Under interrogation the 52-year-old suspect admitted having sold a bottle of illicit liquor for Rs.330.

Meanwhile, a Senior Police officer said that the agro-chemical sprayer, which were being used for spraying insecticide; the liquor distilled with it could be highly hazardous if consumed.

The suspect and the illicit distillery equipment were produced in court Sunday morning.
