Nigeria and Sri Lanka have signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) in different sectors of their economies last year during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). The MoUs specifically cover agriculture and allied industries, petroleum, power, trade and investment, finance, culture, education, infrastructure, mining, aviation and maritime cooperation. Nigeria is currently one of the world’s major investment destinations and one of the fastest growing economies in the world. A burgeoning middle class has created huge opportunities for businesses in consumer markets like real estate, financial services, food and pharmaceuticals, energy and power, cable and satellites and telecommunications. Nigeria has a large and competitive domestic market with high unmet demand for basic goods and services, untapped abundant natural resources and large and flexible workforce.

From 2002 until 2013, Nigeria’s Exports averaged US $ 5.1 billion reaching an alltime high of US $ 10.3 billion in May of 2008 and a record low of US $ 1.0 billion in February of 2002. Exports of oil and natural gas are the main factor behind Nigeria’s growth and accounts for more than 95 percent of total exports. Nigeria’s main exports partners are USA (30 percent of total in 2009), Equatorial Guinea (8 percent), Brazil (6.6 percent), France (6 percent) and India (6 percent).
