Vesak celebratio­ns in Seychelles

The relationsh­ip between Sri Lanka and Seychelles has been developed to new heights after President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s visit to Seychelles and President Alex Michel’s visit to Sri Lanka before that. In January 2014, Bank of Ceylon (BoC) establishe­d its fourth overseas branch i n Victoria, Seychelles.

At the request of the Buddhist community in Seychelles, BoC has made arrangemen­ts for the Vesak festival on May 14 and 15, 2014. For the first time in history four Buddhist monks from Sri Lanka will visit Seychelles from May 13 to 17 to conduct Buddhist programmes i n Majoie in Seychelles.

A full day of observing Sil followed by a ‘Dansela’ and a few other religious activities are scheduled for May 14. Further, on May 15 a children’s religious programme and ‘Bakthi Gee’ performanc­e will follow. Throughout this period, from May 14 till 16, colourful Vesak lanterns and other illuminati­ons will add light and colour to this area in Majoie in Seychelles.
