Kaduwela Mayor sends letter of demand to NFF spokesman

Kaduwela Mayor G.H. Buddhadasa has sent a letter of demand to Mohamed Muzammil, the spokesman of The National Freedom Front (NFF) led by Minister Wimal Weerawansa calling on him to pay him a sum of Rs.100 million as compensati­on in view of certain defamatory remarks allegedly made by him.

The letter sent through the mayor’s lawyer has demanded payment within 30 days for alleged defamatory statements made maliciousl­y through various mass media outlets.

The letter says Mr Muzammil caused irreparabl­e damage to his reputation by abusing him on the electronic media on May 22 by using the words ”Vandibatta­ya” and ‘pinguttara­ya.

Mr Buddhadasa has further stated that he joined the Sri Lanka Freedom Party in 1967 and had served as the party organiser of the Colombo District, provincial council member and vice chairman of a Pradeshiya Sabha and is currently serving as the mayor of the Kaduwela Municipal Council and that he is 77 years old and the father of three children and is popular in the country.

He had said that he would resort to legal action if a favourable response to his letter of demand was not received.
