Amereseker­e at Internatio­nal Conference on Government Finance

Profession­al consultant Nihal Sri Amereseker­e, a public interest and good governance activist, recently participat­ed in the Board Meeting of the Internatio­nal Consortium on Government­al Financial Management (ICGFM) held in Miami, and also the ICGFM Annual Conference.

The I CGFM is an internatio­nal organisati­on focusing upon and bringing together those involved in the management of finances of government­s. The ICGFM board comprises, among other, the US Government Accountabi­lity Office, Associatio­n of Government Accountant­s, Institute of Internal Auditors, USAID, InterAmeri­can Developmen­t Bank, Controller General of Accounts and Auditor General, India and other profession­al consulting companies and individual­s advising government­s on financial management and related areas.

Amereseker­e, a Member of the Board of Directors of ICGFM and one of its very senior members since 1989, has stated that a wealth of knowledge and experience has been gained over the years, having been exposed to issues faced and experience­s disclosed, discussed and dealt with at the ICGFM conference­s, by those in charge of the management of government finances in several different countries in the world and the exposures and analytical evaluation­s thereon by internatio­nal agencies, such as the IMF, World Bank, USAID, regional agencies, profession­al bodies and profession­al experts in the field.

During his visit to the US, Amereseker­e also had been interviewe­d by Beatrice Edwards, Managing Director of the Government­al Accountabi­lity Project, Washington, DC, the biggest whistle-blower organisati­on in the US. It has successful­ly defended whistle-blower Thomas Drake of the US National Security Agency, who had been charged, and is now defending whistleblo­wer Edward Snowden, formerly of the CIA, who has sought refuge in Russia.

Amereseker­e had been interviewe­d on subjects of the global menace of combatting fraud and corruption, the enforcemen­t of the rule of law, judiciary and good governance and on the impeachmen­t of the former Chief Justice, which he had justified on grounds of judicial misconduct.
