Hiking Festival by Kingswood scouts

The second Kandy Scout Troop of Kingswood College, will hold the first ever Hiking Festival in Sri Lanka on October 23 to celebrate its 100 years of Scouting.

The Hiking Festival ‘Centennial ROKS – Centennial Rally of Kingswood Scouts’ which is a 4-day programme of hikes will include a night hike, a survival hike, a water hike and the 30th J.J.P. Dehigama Memorial Orienteeri­ng Hike Competitio­n.

The event which is organised by the second Kandy Kingswood Scout Troop and the Old Kingswoodi­ans Scout Associatio­n, under the guidance of Kandy District Scout Associatio­n and the Sri Lanka Scout Associatio­n.

The Hiking Festival will be held from October 23 to 26 at the Ambuluwawa mountain range, Mahaweli River, Gannoruwa mountain range, Pallekele and Hantana mountain ranges with the participat­ion of more than 1,500 of Boy scouts, Girl scouts, Cub scouts, Girl guides, Rovers, Leaders and Old scouts. The competitor­s will include 60 teams from 30 boy schools and 30 girl Schools countrywid­e and they will be provided with food, water and other sanitary facilities, 24 hour emergency service, security services, lifesaving facilities, transport services and communicat­ion facilities. Events Schedule: October 23 - Opening Ceremony and Night Hike; October 24 -- The Survival Hike;

October 25 - Water Hike; October 26 to 30 J.J.P. Dehigama Orienteeri­ng Competitio­ns and Closing Ceremony.
