US GUEST: FIVE STAR HOTEL EMPLOYEE APOLOGISES

An employee attached to a five star hotel in Colombo who had made a complaint against an American guest, charging that he was assaulted by the American guest, yesterday apologised to the guest stating that the whole incident was due to a mix-up at the hotel.

In his complaint to the Kollupitiy­a police, the hotel employee attached to the hotel mini-bar said he had been instructed to verify whether anything had been consumed from the mini-bar by the guest of room 677 who was checking out on October 15. He said when he went to collect the mini-bar bill, he tapped on the door and received no response and subsequent­ly opened the door. He said he was assaulted by the guest when he opened the door for the second time.

The hotel employee was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital and was subsequent­ly discharged. Meanwhile, police had arrested the guest and he was ordered to be remanded for a day and later on he was ordered to be released on bail after being produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate. However, the hotel security had confirmed that there had been a confusion. Counsel Senaka Ullandupit­iya appeared for the foreign national.
