Susantha, Suranga clinch Joseph Perera Memorial Trophy
Joseph Perera Memorial Snooker Double Tournament
National snooker champion Susantha Boteju of YMCA and Suranga Perera of Castle Cue Club Kandy clinched the Joseph Perera Memorial Snooker Double trophy played at the Embassy Pool Parlour in Kandy.
The duo pairing together outclassed the pair of S.M. Ibrahim (YMCA)/M.M. Rikaz (MICH) with a convincing two frames to nil in the three frame final.
The final was expected to be a closely contested affair due to the fact that their opponents were not going to be easy nuts to crack judging by the performances they put in the quarter and semi final encounters.
A high standard of snooker was witnessed with 80 cueists that included the reigning Sri Lanka national billiard and snooker champions K.H. Sirisoma and Susantha Boteju in action at the two day tournament.
The champions apart from winning the Joseph Perera memorial trophy was presented with a cash award of Rs. 50,000/- while the runner up received a cash award Rs. 20,000/- and a trophy.
The tournament conducted in memory of the late Joseph Perera who was an ardent supporter of cue sports and kept the game alive in the hill capital was organized by his son Sampath Perera with support from Hairulla Deen two ardent supporters of the cue game.
The well organized tournament was highly commended by the participants and the vast number of spectators who came to witness the proceedings over the two days.
Sampath who also received support from well wishes and friends and intends to conduct the tournament annually in memory of his father who he says has done a lot to the game.
RESULTS:
SEMI FINALS - Susantha Boteju (YMCA)/Suranga Perera (Castle CC) beat K.H. Sirisoma (SLPA)/Anil Rohana (AAC) 2-1 (54/40, 22/72, 64/17). S.M. Ibrahim (YMCA)/M.M. Rikaz (MICH) beat M.F.M. Fahim/M.I.M. Imaz (Sea Endless) 2-1 (37/51, 54/23, 83/53).
THIRD PLACE PLAY OFF - K.H. Sirisoma (SLPA)/Anil Rohana (AAC) beat M.F.M. Fahim/M.I.M. Imaz (Sea Endless) 1-0 (46/39).
FINAL - Susantha Boteju (YMCA)/Suranga Perera (Castle CC) beat S.M. Ibrahim (YMCA)/M.M. Rikaz (MICH) 2-0 (51/33, 70/23).
