S. Thomas’ set for the kill

S. Thomas' were set for the kill against Dharmasoka MV Ambalangod­a at the end of the first day's play in their Under 19 interschoo­l cricket encounter played at Mt Lavinia.

S. Thomas' after making a formidable score of 283 for 5 declared bowled out Dharmasoka MV for a paltry 58. Following on Dharmasoka were five for 10 still needing 215 runs to avoid an innings defeat when the play gets underway today.

It was Chenutha Wickramasi­nghe who laid the foundation for the Thomians when he made an unbeaten 102 in 121 balls inclusive of nine boundaries and four sixes. He was supported by Helakamal Nanayakkar­a with an elegant half century.

Tharindu Ratnayake was the pick of the bowler claiming seven wickets for 22 runs.

ST BENEDICT’S TAKE LEAD

St Benedict's took a first innings lead over Wesley at the end of the first day's play in the Under 19 match played at Campbell Park. Wesley taking first lease of the wicket made 135 and St Benedict's in their turn ended the day on 139 for 6 with Mahela Udawatte making a top score of 62. The match will be continued today.
