Infant and motorcyclist die in accident
A seven month old infant and a 28 year old man were killed when a motor cycle carrying five people including the infant plunged down a precipice yesterday morning in Handapangoda, Ingiriya.
The other three riders were severely injured. The victims were identified as Amashi Weerasinghe (7 months) and the rider Upul Kumara (28). The accident occurred when the two children and their parents of Anuradhapura were returning home after visiting a relative in Handapangoda. The motor cyclist who is a resident in Handapangoda had offered them a lift on his motorcycle upto the main road. However on their way to the main road the motor cycle had plunged down the Kiranthidiya Kanda precipice in Arakawila Ingiriya when the young rider apparently lost balance. The father, mother and the other child who sustained serious injuries had been admitted to the Ingiriya and Kalubowila hospitals.
