India,US offer assistance

In the event of landslides burying a large number of people and displacing hundreds of others, India and the United States have offered relief assistance to Sri Lanka, External Affairs Minister G.L.Peiris told Parliament yesterday.

He said his Indian counterpart Susma Swaraj contacted him and offered assistance to the government at this moment.

He also said US Assistant Secretary of States for Central and South Asian Affairs Nisha Desai Biswal contacted Sri Lankan Ambassador Prasad Kariyawasam in Washington and pledged relief aid to Sri Lanka at this hour.
