New housing complex for state employees

The constructi­on of a new housing complex with 608 apartment units for employees of the state sector was begun yesterday in the Borella area.

The housing complex comprises of 21 floors and 608 units of houses and each would be sold for around Rs. 8 million. The infrastruc­ture of the scheme has been formally developed following internatio­nal standards and would have all the facilities required for a comfortabl­e urban lifestyle including playground­s and children’s parks. The Urban Developmen­t Authority said that a sum of Rs. 4,449 million has been allocated for this housing project. Meanwhile, employees would be required to have a minimum service period of 10 years to apply for apartments in the Borella scheme. Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa has said that the main objective of this project will be to ease the housing problems of employees who come to Colombo from rural areas by providing them with residences within Colombo.
