Sri Lanka awaits entry of Bajaj RE60 four-wheeler

Sri Lankan consumers may well have the opportunit­y of owning a vehicle with four wheels soon, which is both affordable and eco-friendly with t he Baja RE60. The Bajaj RE60 is an inexpensiv­e, rear-engined, four-passenger quadricycl­e, the first fourwheele­r built by Bajaj Auto.

The RE60 is powered by a water cooled DTSi 4 valve engine, combined with a closed loop fuel injection system, delivers high performanc­e and amazing fuel efficiency. And the maximum speed of 70 km per hour is just what you need for efficient last mile transporta­tion.RE 60 is expected to achieve a high fuel efficiency of 35 km/l with low carbon dioxide emissions. The four-wheeler is as economical to run as a three-wheeler but safer and more comfortabl­e.

The local agent for the RE60 vehicle requested the Motor Traffic Department to register it under different category but this has not been done so far. In order to accommodat­e this request, the Motor Traffic Department needs to create a new category for this vehicle and change the Motor Traffic Act accordingl­y, which has to be done with the Cabinet approval.

The Cabinet paper has already been prepared and sent for approval with the necessary details and specificat­ions of the vehicle.

Further, t he l ocal agent says that RE 60 is designed considerin­g relevance of quadri category that already exists in Europe and presently meets all European quadri norms. This vehicle offers a number of benefits to customers due to its high fuel efficiency and low maintenanc­e cost as it is a brand-new vehicle with a simple engine and requires less space for parking.

What’s more, it helps save foreign exchange due to its low price (CIF value), high fuel efficiency and less cost for spare parts as it has a brandnew, small engine.
