I AM HAPPY TO FULFIL DREAM OF LATE D.S SENANAYAKE: PRESIDENT
President Maithripala Sirisena, who paid a glowing tribute to D. S. Senanayake, Sri Lanka’s first Head of State on his 63rd death anniversary yesterday, said that he was honoured to get the opportunity to fulfill the late Prime Minister’s dreams.
“The late D.S Senanayake must have hoped that one of the members from Modern day corrupt politicos should take a leaf out of the book of an honest politician like the late Prime Minister. the peasant colonies should become the head of state in this country one day to take his policies forward and fulfill his dreams, and I am happy and honoured to take on that responsibility,’ he said. President Sirisena made this statement after making a surprise appearance at the commemoration ceremony after having finished handing out appointment letters to several Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) members who became ministers in the new Cabinet The President noted that the colonies which were set up by late Prime Minister Senanayake had played a major role in the defeat of the LTTE.
Furthermore the President said modern day corrupt politicos should take a leaf out of the book of an honest politician like the late Prime Minister.
Minister of Public Administration and Buddha Sasana and United National Party (UNP) Leadership Counc i l Chairman Karu Jayasuriya said the late Mr. Senanayake would have been a happy man had he was living today as yesterday was a great day as both the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and the UNP had come together to govern the nation.
