The Gangaramaya Temple in Colombo 02, is-organizing a scheme with the help of those involved in food supply to provide a packet of meals to those who are working and to those who are unable to get a decent lunch/dinner. This programme is arranged to provide persons with a good meal that is nutritious and wholesome.

The inaugural programme will be held on 25 March at 11.30 am at the Simamalakaya adjoining the Gangaramaya Temple in Colombo 02.

“The idea is to prepare a meal for at least six persons from a kilo of rice. The ultimate aim is to spread this programme right through the island with the help of media and other related organizations. On the 25th lunch will be provided free as is done in a Dansala and from the next day lunch and dinner will be provided at cost price. Those who are desirous of donating lunch only for the 25th are free to so. Our country leads in the provision of free meals to persons hand in hand with this programme it is intended to provide the Maha Sangha a Dhana each day at 11.00 at the venue. The ultimate objective is to educate people with regard to the preparation of a wholesome meal at a cheaper price. The labour of poor folk will be made use for this endeavour so that they too will be in self employment.

“In Buddhist countries like Thailand, Vietnam there is poverty but the meals are cheap. At Kataragama in the Pilgrim’s Rest run by us we provide accommodation and living facilities to many. There are benefactors who help us to do this. We will continue to carry on these projects.

During the insurgency Gangaramaya helped the people in hospitals. We are hopeful that if our plans work well we will be able to provide a free meal to the inmates of the hospital. Generosity of all is called for to achieve these noble mission. You can address your suggestions and thoughts to
