Youth’s incised body hangs from ceiling fan in Galawilawatta, Homagama
A body with incised wounds in the neck hanging from a ceiling fan in a house at Galawilawatta in Homagama was recovered by the Homagama Police last morning.
Police visited the scene on information received from a woman occupying the house, and initiated investigations. The deceased was a relative of the woman’s husband, police said. During investigations police recovered a blood stained knife from a room in the house. The deceased was identified as Yoganathan Puwanendran (23), a resident of Boragas, off Nuwara Eliya. Police said he had been employed in Bahrain and had returned to the country on Saturday morning (04).
The woman concerned stated that she was employed as a housemaid, and that her husband called her on the day of the incident and said that the young man stabbed him. She said she rushed to the scene and found blood stains in the veranda, and the body of the young man hanging from the ceiling fan. She stated that her husband and the young man were getting on quite well and that she was unaware of the circumstance that led to the incident. Police suspect the woman’s husband for the killing.
The suspect who received stab injuries was admitted in a critical condition to the Homagama Hospital.
Homagama Acting Magistrate Suriyapperuma visited the scene and held the preliminary magisterial inquiry. He ordered the police to refer the body to the Homagama Hospital for the postmortem examination. Crime Investigation Branch OIC Inspector Chandraseka and IP Asoka Ranabahu are conducting further investigations.
